One of America’s most beloved TV dads is about to become one in real life too. When it comes to having a child of his own, Stamos once said he thought “the ship had sailed” for him.
Ironically, the ‘Full House’ star has been taking on fatherly duties for years. But now, “The Vampire Diaries” star Caitlin McHugh, to whom he proposed earlier this year, will be the mom of his first child. The pair refused to disclose the baby’s sex.
Stamos asked McHugh to be his wife in October at Disneyland following tow years of relationship. The actors said he has long wanted to start a family but he wasn’t quite sure if that was possible anymore.
I always wanted to be a dad. Clearly I had to do some work on myself first,
he recently told reporters.
He acknowledged because of his youthful look and attitude he used to think he would live up to the age 150. Yet at some point, he woke up and said to himself about having a child, ‘No, man, this is it. This is not a rehearsal.’ However, when people approached him and suggested to start a family he used to tell them that that ship had sailed.
When Stamos Met McHugh Everything Changed
Stamos said that when he met his current fiancé, who is his 23 years senior, his mindset changed. He unveiled that he and McHugh share the same morals and values, so they thought it would be a good thing to start a family together.
McHugh confirmed the story but added a little twist. She said that she had to somehow convince Stamos to start a family sooner by telling him that he is “old”. The rest was history.
The couple learned that a baby was on its way before the engagement, so the Full House dad had to pop up the question before the baby was born because that how it should be done.
The look on John’s face when I told him we were pregnant was priceless,
Stamos’ girlfriend told reporters.
McHugh explained that the look on his face was that of a man who has hoped for years to have a child of his own but lost hope it was going to happen for him.
