Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes, Waffles and French Toast Recalled

Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes, Waffles and French Toast Recalled

According to a Friday announcement from a New Jersey-based food company, the very popular Aunt Jemima frozen pancakes, waffles and even the French toast slices are being recalled. The reason for this recall is the fear of contamination with listeria. After numerous tests revealed the presence of listeria monocytogenes in a production plant, Pinnacle Foods Inc. decided to notify the distributors and retailers in the United States and Mexico about its decision to pull the products form the shelves. According to the company, this suspicion only has to do with the frozen products with “Best By” dates, not the dry mixes and syrups.

Fears of listeria contamination

According to an official statement from Pinnacle Foods Inc., the company has decided to recall all those products belonging to Aunt Jemima as a measure of precaution. The company also stated that the health and safety of the customers are their top priority and they do not want anything that might harm them on shelves. Fortunately, there have been no cases of illnesses caused by the pancakes, waffles or French toast slices. Still, Pinnacle Foods prefers to take the “better safe than sorry” route and prevent anything like this from happening. This is indeed a good way to keep your clients safe and to show them that you care for their health.

What is listeria?

It is worth noting that listeria is a severe illness which can cause infections which can be fatal, especially for children. Also, elderly people and those with a weak immune system can be affected. Symptoms of listeria in healthy people can include diarrhea and fevers. Moreover, this illness can even cause miscarriages and stillbirths in the case of pregnant women.

The Pinnacle Foods Inc. company stated that it is working closely together with the United States Food and Drug Administration. They want to make sure that no such product reaches the table of any customer. The dry mixes and the syrups from Aunt Jemima are reportedly safe and people can buy and enjoy them without any fear. According to a statement from the company, those who have already bought frozen pancakes, waffles or French toast can return to the place they got them from and they will receive a full refund.
